Ingredients
- Bread – white, whole wheat, sourdough, or gluten-free
- Mayonnaise – for the outer crust
- Cheese – choose or blend from:
- Cheddar
- Mozzarella
- Swiss
- Gouda or Fontina
- Dairy-free options
Instructions
- Spread mayo generously on one side of each bread slice (this is the outer layer).
- Heat skillet over medium. Place one slice mayo side down, sprinkle ½ cup shredded cheese on top.
- Top with the second slice, mayo side up. Grill for 4–5 minutes.
- Flip carefully once golden. Cook another 3–4 minutes until both sides are crisp and cheese is melted.
- (Optional) Cover pan briefly to help cheese melt faster.
- For air fryer: Preheat to 370°F. Assemble sandwich, cook 6–8 minutes, flipping halfway.
Notes
Use mayo instead of butter for a richer, crispier crust. Combine cheeses for gourmet flavor. Great with soup or salad!
